The community of Miramar is one of the fastest-growing cities in Broward and in the top 10 in the United States. An enviable blend of easy living and bustling business, the City of Miramar has been named the "fastest growing city in America" of its kind. It remains of the largest cities, in size, in the State of Florida.
Established long ago as a bedroom community for commuters to Miami-Dade, it is rapidly developing a commercial base as its western-most neighborhoods boom. With the population of over 125,000 and still growing Miramar remains one of the premier communities of South Florida and was responsible for over 30% of Broward County's growth last year.
Today, Miramar is the chosen site for some of the country's leading corporations, such as NBC 6, AT&T, Gannett Satellite Information Network, Humana, SmithKline Beecham Laboratories, Inc., American Express and many others. The west end also includes many new neighborhoods, such as Sunset Lakes, Nautica, Silver Shores, Avalon and Silver Lakes. The eastern protion of Miramar, known as Historical Miramar, is home to the foundation of the Miramar business community and its residents.
With the growth has come great demand for new schools, parks, roads and services and the city has done well to keep up with the demand of public services and quality of life. The diversity of the community lends itself to the strength of the city. Multigenerational in its overall scope; Miramar's Mayor, commission and leaders have teamed together to learn from the past, involve the present, and build for the future businesses and residents of the city.
